PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — HAPPY NEW YEAR, HUMANOIDS!
What’s good y’all. It’s officially the new year and for first show of 2018, The People’s Podcast bids farewell to Jim Caldwell, the worst “best coach” in NFL History.
Those of you who have followed this show from the outset know that a large amount of my disdain for this team — the love-hate relationship I have with the Detroit Lions that I’ve referenced a few times — is centered in three places: the Ford Family’s notoriously lazy ownership, the undying blind love of Matthew Stafford, and the arrogant incompetence of Caldwell. The first two are unfortunately not going anywhere, but the third was the wildcard.
Well, this past Monday, Lions did something un-Lionsy in actually getting rid of him despite his having the “best” record of any head coach since the Merger, including coming off a season where the Lions — barely — finished with a winning record (but no playoff appearance). He’s gone, and maybe the Lions finally have gotten the memo that just “having a winning record” and “not being Cleveland” is not good enough!
This week, the show is broken into two parts because this thing needed to stand on its own. Part 2 of the show — what will be Episode 61.5! — will welcome JSC Contributor Jazmine Duke back to the show. She made a very notable appearance on the show a year ago and this time she’s back with her father, Aaron, with whom she co-wrote a book called I’m Black and I Have A Dad. She has also previously written on this site last summer, telling a story about how her dad legit saved her life. A separate post is coming fully dedicated to this interview.
But for now, the Lions are going to get these hands!
