JSC Radio Ep. 64: Blake Neck Speed

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — It’s funny what seven days can change…

So to recap, my Alma Mater’s issues are bigger than just Larry Nassar. Like I said last weekwith the “retirement” of Athletic Director Mark Hollis just hours before the release of this monstrous piece from ESPN’s venerable Outside The Lines on how MSU’s lax response to sexual violence spans decades and stretches into the basketball and football programs, things went nuclear in East Lansing.

Last Friday night, I went on ESPN Radio’s Freddie & Fitzsimmons (I come in at the 19:00 mark) and talked about the OTL piece and the culture of silence that floats around East Lansing. Since then, both of MSU’s legendary coaches — Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio — have come under fire because they, particularly Izzo, may have allowed this crap to happen on their watch. When pressed, Dantonio defiantly and directly responded within hours.

TomIzzo
If Tom Izzo wants this heat off of him, he needs to answer some damn questions.

Meanwhile, Tom Izzo — normally the most straightforward coach in the country — has hidden behind written statements and stale “let’s just talk about basketball” talking points. The longer he goes in running from questions, the more credence that ESPN piece, which is being predictably (and foolishly) attacked by Spartans as some sort of “biased hit piece,” gains by the day.

Plus, the Detroit Pistons — remember them? — are desperate to be seen as relevant and traded their two best scorers for an oft-injured dude who just signed a crazy contract with the other team in L.A. — and he found out that “loyalty” is just a brand name to NBA teams.

Here’s Episode 64, y’all.

JSC Radio Ep. 64 Blog BannerComing up on Episode No. 64 of JSC Radio:

  • The fallout at MSU engulfs two of the most respected Spartans
  • Why Tom Izzo’s silence is only making this worse
  • People need to get a grip instead of attacking the OTL Piece.
  • Why the Pistons are acting like that thirsty dude in a girl’s DMs.
  • Blake Griffin chose “loyalty” over a potentially better situation and got shipped out in less than 6 months.
  • This trade lock in the Pistons’ train to nowhere.

JSC Radio Ep. 48: #RetroReview – SummerSlam 1997

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) —  What’s good people! After last week’s rather heavy episode, it was time to shake things up and change the vibe. As y’all know, this show doesn’t have a set format, per se. But this is definitely a big Pro Wrestling (not “Sports Entertainment”) Spot here at House JSC. And I decided a few weeks ago to try something different.

Episode 48 is the first official #RetroReview, which will be a quarterly show that reviews one of the classic “Big 4” WWF/WWE Pay-Per-Views: Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series. After Episode 28 looked at Ric Flair’s incredible win in the 1992 Royal Rumble and Episode 36 looked at my all-time favorite WrestleMania matches, it was time to go all in and review a full PPV, and no better place to start than going back 20 years to SummerSlam 1997, when things were definitely changing in the World Wrestling Federation and in the business in general.

JSC Radio Ep. 46: Hard Headed

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) —  What’s up everybody. The push to Episode 50 continues after last week’s well-received episode. This week, the People’s Podcast talks about a new study on CTE that yielded astounding results and further showed that football has a ticking time bomb in its midst.

Plus: Kyrie Irving is sick of being in LeBron’s shadow, and Lucky Whitehead got fired on his day off.

JSC Words of Wisdom #9: Controlling the Heat

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — Good Friday morning, Everyone! It’s time, once again, for the JSC Words of Wisdom, a.k.a. #JSCWOW. After taking last week off and giving Jazmine Duke the floor for Father’s Day weekend, I’m back on this first weekend of summer and this week deals with a little thing I like to call “Heat.” It’s more commonly known as anger and it can be an impediment to just about any conceivable relationship you even think of having.  Just like you can’t let being Hurt cripple your success, being angry does you even fewer favors. And I speak from experience.
