JSC Radio Ep. 65: Flipping The Birds

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — This was a hell of a week to be in Philadelphia.

What up doe, People! This has been a hell of a cool week here in Philly to be honest. This week’s episode — another landmark at No. 65 — hits on the aftermath of the orgasm of happiness that was the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Super Bowl.

As I’ve said multiple times the last few weeks, Philadelphia is a different kind of place when it comes to their sports teams — particularly the Eagles. The Eagles are to Philly what the Red Sox are in Boston, the Cubs are in Chicago, the Saints are in New Orleans, and…yes…the Lions are in Detroit.

This No. 9 found a way to take command and win big games for the Eagles.

The Eagles last won an NFL Championship in 1960, predating the Super Bowl by seven calendar years. They wouldn’t reach their first Super Bowl until after the 1980 season, where they got laid out by the Raiders. It would be almost 25 years before they got back to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Patriots in Jacksonville. The Lombardi Trophy, much like it is in Detroit, was an obsession in Philly. It was the holy grail. It was the Precious. Well, last Sunday, the Eagles obtained the Precious. And they did it in a way that few would’ve ever figured, especially after Carson Wentz’s knee went kaboom on Dec. 10 in Los Angeles, with lightly regarded journeyman Nick Foles out there throwing flames like he grabbed a Fire Flower and a pissed off defense. This week’s show talks about the Eagles influence on the city, the wild celebrations/riots that soon followed, the epic parade featuring one of the greatest promos every by Jason Kelce, and why these Eagles have all the things the Lions wish they had.

Plus, the NBA trade deadline basically turned into the Great Cleveland Massacre.

Here’s Episode 65. Let’s Have Some Fun, y’all.

JSC Radio Ep. 65 Blog BannerComing up on Episode No. 65 of JSC Radio:

  • The Eagles win the damn Super Bowl.
  • Why this Eagles team, maybe more than others, is the perfect Philadelphia team.
  • The Eagles complete the Trophy Slam for Philadelphia.
  • I set you millennials straight about questioning the man about stats.
  • Jason Kelce may have just dropped the modern day version of “Hard Times”
  • Why the Lions would be good to find that chip the Eagles have on their shoulder and lose the sense of entitlement.
  • The NBA Trade Deadline came and the choppa started singing in Cleveland..

JSC Words of Wisdom #13: Hope is NOT a Strategy…

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — Good Friday morning, Everyone! It’s been a while… a long while…since I brought you the JSC Words of Wisdom, a.k.a. #JSCWOW. Too damn long in fact. So I’m back at it with my first one of the new year and it’s time I hit y’all with a new mantra you can take into 2018 and beyond.

It’s about a thing called Hope. It’s a great thing to have. It’s a nice thing to do. But it cannot be the only card you have in your hand. Go figure that this phrase was inspired by, of all things: The Detroit Lions!

We are back so going forward, this will drop (just about) every Friday morning. Feel free to share this on your favorite social media outlet with the hashtag — #JSCWOW.

JSC Radio Ep. 61: Check The Report

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) —  HAPPY NEW YEAR, HUMANOIDS!

What’s good y’all. It’s officially the new year and for first show of 2018, The People’s Podcast bids farewell to Jim Caldwell, the worst “best coach” in NFL History.

Those of you who have followed this show from the outset know that a large amount of my disdain for this team — the love-hate relationship I have with the Detroit Lions that I’ve referenced a few times — is centered in three places: the Ford Family’s notoriously lazy ownership, the undying blind love of Matthew Stafford, and the arrogant incompetence of Caldwell. The first two are unfortunately not going anywhere, but the third was the wildcard.

Well, this past Monday, Lions did something un-Lionsy in actually getting rid of him despite his having the “best” record of any head coach since the Merger, including coming off a season where the Lions — barely — finished with a winning record (but no playoff appearance). He’s gone, and maybe the Lions finally have gotten the memo that just “having a winning record” and “not being Cleveland” is not good enough!

2017-06-18 13.11.06This week, the show is broken into two parts because this thing needed to stand on its own. Part 2 of the show — what will be Episode 61.5! — will welcome JSC Contributor Jazmine Duke back to the show. She made a very notable appearance on the show a year ago and this time she’s back with her father, Aaron, with whom she co-wrote a book called I’m Black and I Have A Dad. She has also previously written on this site last summer, telling a story about how her dad legit saved her life. A separate post is coming fully dedicated to this interview.

But for now, the Lions are going to get these hands!

JSC Radio Ep. 55: Eat A W

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) —  What Up Doe, people! We’ve reached another landmark — Episode 55 (FIDDY-FIVE!) — and this one is once again dedicated to my alma mater, Michigan State University

Spartan Football has had a roller coaster ride the last two years to say the least. As we discussed back in Episode 40, the school as a whole has been through the ringer with issues — a number of which of their own doing — and it was compounded by the football team hitting rock bottom last year after having the program’s best season since 1966. The off-season saw five starters booted from the team due to legal issues and personality conflicts and they were gleefully written off by everyone — particularly in Detroit — as no longer relevant.

Well, the boys are back, and on a redemption tour that is on the verge of epic. MSU Quarterback Brian Lewerke is even out here talking a little spicy:

We discuss MSU Football, plus a litany of other fun stuff this week on the People’s Podcast.
