Where the hell have I been in 2018?

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — What’s Good Y’all. I hope I remember how to do this.

2018-05-04 09.47.28To say that 2018 has been a god-damned adventure is putting it mildly. It’s been one of the weirdest years of my nearly 39 years of life. I can say — without question — I have had more “WTF” moments (both good and bad) than one man should have as an adult. It’s been nuts. I’ve also noticed that it’s been three months since I posted anything on this page. I even fell behind on posting updates on JSC Radio! That’s how wild, stressful, and weird that 2018 has been. Some of this, you guys know about, and I won’t rehash it here. A lot of it you don’t so I’ll explain here.

If you haven’t noticed, this post is going to be very unfiltered and uncensored. At this point, if you’re jarred by a few dirty words, you can leave now. I sincerely no longer care at this point. Either you like me or you don’t but you’re reading one way or the other.

JSC Radio Ep. 68: Balling for Dollars

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — The 68th Episode of the People’s Podcast is here and, it’s entering March like a Lion going all Hoops — College & Pro.

First, we hit on the FBI’s investigation of numerous college hoops programs — including North Carolina, Louisville, Duke, USC…and Michigan State. Yep, the Spartans got caught in the net. But, instead of going after the players or the programs, this show goes after the NCAA whose antiquated and hypocritical culture is largely to blame for this foolishness. We go after why the players need to be paid — in actual money, not in “clothes” or “education” or gum — and how that can start to fix this mess.

Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban is suddenly the small fish in this shark tank.

Then, we hit the Dallas Mavericks situation where yet another poisonous case of office culture had been exposed as the NBA gets dinged by the #MeToo movement. A toxic, misogynistic office culture has made Dallas the NBA’s poster child for harassment and they become the litmus test for how the league will handle cases of this. The league has said it will create a confidential hotline for anyone who has been harassed. The Mavericks hired Cynthia Marshall, a former AT&T executive who led some of their diversity initiatives. While that seems like they’ve learned their lesson, the red flags still exist.

Plus, the Big Ten Tournament is in New York City. Why, tho?

The Best of JSC Radio 2017: The Year That Was…

DETROIT (JSC) —  Happy New Year, you Filthy Animals!

After one of the more ridiculously arduous and strange years, 2017 has come to a close and the People’s Podcast was all over every weird and wacky part of it. It’s the Annual Best of JSC Radio show. Nearly 2 hours of goodness going over some of the top moments on the show in 2017 — From Episodes 26 to 60. So get ready to take a look back at the adventure that was JSC Radio in 2017.

Plus, you’re welcome to take a look back at both of 2016’s Best of Shows as well to refresh your memory on THAT!

P.S.: Please pardon my voice in the second half of this show. I recorded the first part of the show prior to getting sick. Going out of 2017 in style, clearly!

JSC Radio Ep. 52: Las Vegas

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) —  So, it happened again. But, deep in your heart, you knew it would, right? On Monday morning, many of us woke up to our news alerts having gone crazy overnight (or, in my case, in real time) of the horrific massacre in Las Vegas.

This isn’t even the first episode that will address a horrific mass shooting — Episode 11 was the first. This one, however, is infuriating  for a different reason. A man was able to stockpile weapons, kill more people than died on one of the hijacked flights on Sept. 11, 2001, rack up a number of casualties that rivals that of the Oklahoma City bombing, and then kill himself before facing consequences. Yet, this still doesn’t seem to be enough to force any sort of change.

This week, a monologue on Las Vegas, gun control, and when will this country take responsibility for what it has wrought with its strident love of firearms.

JSC Radio Ep. 47: Statues of Limitations

NEW ORLEANS (JSC) —  What’s up everybody. The push to Episode 50 continues after a brief hiatus. First and foremost, my apologies for being gone the last few weeks. I was down in New Orleans for the National Association of Black Journalists Convention — it was an amazing success BTW — but after three weeks, the People’s Podcast is back in business and just in time for more of the fresh hell that has engulfed this country.

Episode 47 talks about the terrible incident in Charlottesville, and the fallout from it that includes the perversion of “Free Speech” and this country’s continued clutching onto the Confederacy — you know, the LOSING side in the Civil War. The latter being a subject that is sadly familiar to this site.

JSC Words of Wisdom #8: Who Hurt You?

PHILADELPHIA (JSC) — Good Friday morning, Everyone! It’s time, once again, for the JSC Words of Wisdom, a.k.a. #JSCWOW. As always, this will drop every Friday morning, more often than not, at 6:00 am Eastern Time. Feel free to share this on your favorite social media outlet with the hashtag — #JSCWOW.

For this week’s Edition: I go from the highs of talking about awards to the root of why so many of us do the things we do in the first place. We attack life for a multitude of reasons and often the things we do are driven by something. What has become glaringly clear over the last few years is that a lot of us — myself included — have been driven by pain, rejection, and failure. In short: We’ve been Hurt. And as the above quote says, that can cause more problems than what it’s worth and you likely don’t realize why you’re doing it. Let’s get a little deep on this Friday.
